Brainstorming a Topic for the Semester; Applying Rhetorical Terms
Introduction to CUNY Academic Databases

 

9/10 – Due: Reflection 1 – What I Know About Writing Now

Week 3

9/22 – Read: “The Rhetorical Situation” (Blackboard); MLA Citation Workshop
Source-Based Rhetorical Analysis FIRST DRAFT Due; Peer Review

 

Week 4

No class this week; instead, I’ll be scheduling time during the week for one-on-one conferences for about 20 minutes each. I will send out an email regarding the schedule.

10/6 – Source-Based Rhetorical Analysis FINAL DRAFT Due
Read: “What is the Gender Pay Gap and is it Real?” (Also on Blackboard); Introduction to Assignment 2: An Inquiry-Based Research Essay; Furthering your topic

 

Week 6

10/13 – Due: Reflection 2 – What I’ve Learned About Writing; Read “Developing Research
Questions”; Discussion of Genre and Design

 

Week 7

10/20 – Due: Research Proposal; Turning Research Proposal into Research Essay; How to get more details in writing

 

Week 8

10/27 – Read: “Nobody Mean More,” June Jordan; Identifying audience with language and vernacular; Research sources and credibility

 

Week 9

11/3 –  Covering your thesis; Genre and Audience and Language; Translingual Attitudes on Writing

 

Week 10

11/10 – Due: Inquiry-Based Research Essay FIRST DRAFT; Know Your Audience; Peer Review
